1010 AD- The Tale of Genji, considered to be the world's first true novel, is published.
1314- Dante prints The Divine Comedy as a retribution against those who sent him into exile.
1494- First international release of a novel: Ship of Fools printed for readers of English, Latin, Dutch, and German.
1525- The first English New Testament is printed, and author Tyndale is accused of heresy and burned at the stake.
1605- Don Quixote is published and becomes very popular.
1840- Paperbacks are introduced in the United States. The pulp fiction market takes off.
1980- 70 percent of all books published in the U.S. are paperbacks.
